About A. Moodie

Who is A. Moodie

I believe

Just like our planet, everyone has everything they need in life to achieve and maintain wellness.

Once upon a time, there was a woman named A. Moodie. From her earliest memories, she had been a natural problem solver, always ready to lend a helping hand and relieve the burdens of those she cared about. Yet, when she ventured into college, her path led her towards mass communications, dreaming of becoming a journalist or a prominent figure in the media. Despite her achievements upon graduation, a lingering sense of unfulfillment remained. Taking a pause between undergraduate and graduate school, A. Moodie confronted a truth that had long been brewing within her soul. The calling to pursue her dream in the helping profession could no longer be ignored. It was time to apply for graduate school, to embark on a journey that would forever transform her life. Like so many others, A. Moodie experienced bouts of imposter syndrome, questioning her abilities and fearing the challenges that lay ahead. Could she navigate the demands of graduate school while maintaining a full-time job? Would her intellect and professional demeanor be sufficient to become a psychotherapist? Each step of the process, from meetings with the Dean to auditing classes, from the pure joy sparked by course descriptions to the mandatory personal counseling sessions, served as signs that she was on the right path. A profound realization took hold: one cannot guide others farther than one has journeyed oneself.

Upon completing her graduate program with a concentration in Marriage and Family Therapy, A. Moodie embarked on a year-long internship in community mental health, following the successful completion of her practicum. This transformative experience as an intern therapist left an indelible mark on her, as she witnessed the lives of her clients being changed in ways she would never forget.

Life took an unexpected turn when A. Moodie found herself abruptly losing her job due to the economic upheavals caused by the housing crisis. Yet, she saw this twist of fate as an opportunity—a chance to create a youth counseling program in her parents’ homeland of Jamaica. Drawing upon her knowledge and experiences, she sought to pay it forward and make a difference in the lives of Jamaica’s children. The program proved to be a resounding success, leaving her with yet another unforgettable chapter in her story.

And so, through hard work, dedication, and an unwavering vision, Alpha PsychCare was born. A. Moodie’s tele-behavioral health private practice now serves clients in the United States and the Caribbean, reaching out to the next generation of individuals in need. It is within this career that A. Moodie has found true happiness—providing meaningful therapy, witnessing transformative change, and guiding others on their wellness journeys.

Through her story, A. Moodie’s passion, resilience, and commitment shine bright, inviting others to embark on their own paths of healing and growth.

My Preferred Approach To Therapy

An eclectic form of therapy is part of the maturation process for most therapists. As individuals and families present with various problems, therapists tend to develop a pragmatic approach, borrowing techniques according to what seems to fit your unique situation.

The integrative approach involves blending various therapeutic techniques and theories to cater to the unique needs and preferences of each client. Therapists who adopt this approach recognize that no single therapeutic model can address every individual’s concerns effectively. Instead, they draw from a diverse range of approaches to create a tailored and flexible treatment plan.

The integrative therapist begins by thoroughly assessing the client’s specific issues, personality, and goals. This assessment helps them select and combine elements from different therapeutic modalities, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, humanistic therapy, and more. By doing so, they can create a holistic and personalized approach to address the client’s challenges.

For example, if a client presents with anxiety, the therapist might incorporate relaxation techniques from mindfulness-based therapies to manage immediate symptoms, while also exploring underlying causes through psychodynamic exploration. They may integrate elements of CBT to identify and modify unhelpful thought patterns. Furthermore, they will continually adapt their approach based on the client’s progress and feedback.

In essence, the integrative therapist serves as a versatile guide, embracing the eclectic nature of therapy to empower their clients on their unique and meaningful healing journey. This approach fosters a therapeutic alliance that values individuality, promotes growth, and increases the likelihood of positive outcomes.
